Piuma's (py-ooma's) record label, Shining Light Records, supports nonprofit organizations that work towards: 1) Creating a sustainable natural environment, and 2) Creating an equitable educational system. A portion of proceeds are donated to effective nonprofit organizations, that tackle these issues.
We support environmental nonprofit organizations that work toward protecting the natural environment. On December 17, 2015, Piuma published an article and video going behind the scenes of the EP creation process, giving insight into the Making an Environmentally Friendly Vinyl Record; Piuma's recording studio is powered with 100% renewable energy, recycled materials are used wherever possible, and carbon is offset through planting trees in the Angeles National Forest, through TreePeople. The musical score to Surfrider's documentary trailer, The Twenty, was composed by Piuma—who helped the organization raise over $80,000 to protect the last twenty miles of undeveloped and unprotected Southern California coastline.
A Teach for America alum, Piuma (David Small) dedicated two years to help inner city children, in the City of Watts, California, learn to read—after having been seriously disadvantaged by a broken educational system. We support Teach for America as well as other nonprofit organizations that work toward ensuring that every child, in this great nation, has the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
